Great mix of smoke, Glen Moray character and some red wine influence. I really like it - could be a great malt for cold winter days.
Nose
Nice spicy smoke (medium strong), BBQ dry rub, vanilla, fudge, unripe cherries, dry wine aromas, some green pepper and chilli, also some tannins from the wine barrel. The alcohol is noticeable but very well integrated. Very distinctive smoke and great barrel aromas from the original Bourbon Cask and the Rioja finish.
Taste
Dry, ashy smoke, creamy, sweet malt, candy sweetness with a little vanilla and cherry aromas, chilli spiciness, tannins. What a rollercoaster ride - spicy, smoky, dry but also a lot of sweetness. It goes back and forth.
Finish
The finish is medium-long and continues the previous aromas. The ashy and spicy smoke remains subtle but noticeable. Fruity and malty sweetness are also still strongly present. The barrel briefly brings dry herbs, tannins and tobacco but the smoke and sweetness last the longest. Very pleasant finish that leaves you wanting more.
